A Call to Worship
Pentecost 8A [Ordinary 19A] or [Proper 14A] 2011
Psalm 105: 1-6, 16-22, 45b

We join with your people in ancient times,
to sing together with exuberant delight and joy:
We praise and glorify our unchanging God!

Since time began, people have praised God—
and we join their chorus of thanks and praise:
How awesome are your deeds, O God!

Let all people reverently join in a chorus of praise—
as they gather together in the worship of God.
Bless the Lord our God, whose mercy is
beyond our understanding, and whose
steadfast love endures for ever and ever! Amen.

Prayers of Praise and Thankfulness
Pentecost 8A [Ordinary 19A] or [Proper 14A] 2011
Psalm 105: 1-6, 16-22, 45b

Our Lord and our God, we gather as your people
to sing your praises and to joyfully honour our
great and powerful God. We come with awe and
amazement to offer our prayers and praises to the
God whom we worship, the God who cares about
people, especially when they are in deep distress.

Compassionate God, we gather to remember and
give thanks for your miraculously gracious actions
which saved your people when they were in trouble.
You revealed your compassion and tenderness to
receptive people through your saving actions in
delivering them from hostilities and crises, and from
their loss of liberty and cultural identity. In all this,
you revealed your infinite mercy to even the most
doubting of your people, as they struggled to make
sense of their responsibilities. We bow in reverent
awe before such generous love, tenderness and care.

Generous God, we give thanks that you use ordinary
people to fulfil your purposes, and with encouragement
and support, they have served you well and faithfully.
Help us to be faithful when you call us to service in your
name, and may we bring honour to God’s holy purposes. Amen.

A Personal Meditation
Pentecost 8A [Ordinary 19A] or [Proper 14A] 2011
Psalm 105: 1-6, 16-22, 45b

On this day filled with so many blessings, I want
to sing and shout my thanks and praise to God!
In this week filled with so many blessings, I want
to join in the universal chorus of praise to my God.
In this year, and for every year of my life - filled with
so many blessings - I want share with all who will join
with me in singing my thanks and praise of our God.



Great and glorious God, through many generations you
have revealed yourself to people in many and various
ways, through your generous acts which has brought
them freedom, hope and joy. You have also allowed me
to share in discovering something of who you are; whom
you have been; and who you will be for them in the future.



Empowering God, through your generosity you have
revealed your power to save to vulnerable people whose
hearts are broken; and to people caught in poverty’s trap,
despair and hopelessness. May I be receptive to the cries
of these people in their need, so that I may be a partner with
God in helping bring new hope to these bewildered people.
